While I typically keep my website to “professional” updates, it’s fair to say that running is a big part of how I think, process, and hold together all the parts of my life these days. Running adds an unspoken backdrop to my talks, conferences, and day-to-day life wherever I find myself in the U.S. or abroad.
This month I took on marathon #8, in Chicago: my first world major. Running alongside 55,000 others — cheered on by millions of spectators — was quite the experience. Chicago showed up. 26.2 miles, 29 neighborhoods, and — for me — 3 hours, 41 minutes, and 24 seconds. Not bad for a busy sociologist mom on a warmer-than-expected day in mid-October. A personal best.
Next up: LA in March 2027 — then Boston in April 2027 (qualified and accepted!). My feet and mind won’t stop running until then.
