Since 1998, the Institute for Advanced Catholic Studies (IACS) of the University of Southern California has promoted the study and application of the Catholic intellectual tradition to important social issues of the day.
My 2016 edited volume on American Parishes grew out of a collaborative project with the IACS.
I came on as an IACS-affiliated scholar in recent years, evolving into a stint as a Senior Research Fellow in 2005-2026.
As of September 2026, I am supporting IACS as Director of Social Science Research, shepherding several projects that bring interdisciplinary scholars into dialogue and social science data to bear on Catholic issues. This work dovetails with my broader scholarship and commitments to build understanding through sociological research on religion and Catholicism in particular. It’s a joy to collaborate with IACS by leading research teams, convenings, and big-picture conversations to advance (and through advanced) Catholic Studies in a time with so much energy and need for thoughtful intervention.
